In year 8 you will build upon prior knowledge. E-Safety is an important topic, and with the increase in the amount of internet usage we feel this is important to focus a unit on this topic. With the ever changing nature of the curriculum in year 8, you will be introduced to text based coding in Python. In year 9 students will move onto advanced text based coding concepts. Summative Assessment is carried out at the end of each topic.
This is an introductory unit to the new academic year. This unit will help you to develop high levels of e-safety understanding relating to the use of social networking sites. By the end of this unit should be very aware of the “stranger danger” element of online safety, and will now be more susceptible to peer pressure online and cyber bullying.
This unit of work is designed to introduce you to understanding the uses of databases and how to create a simple single flat file database and use the features of the software to organise, input and display the data efficiently.
This unit of work will introduce you to text-based programming with Python. The lessons being with simple programs involving input and output, and gradually moves on through arithmetic operations, randomness, selection, and iteration.
The Year 7 Programming units on Scratch are a prerequisite for this unit.

Today, there’s an app for every possible need. In this unit you will learn about the entire process of creating your own mobile app, using App Lab from code.org.
You will build on the programming concepts used in previous units, You will work in pairs to perform user research, design an app, write the code for it, before finally evaluating and publishing it for the world to use.

This unit of work will introduce you to the technologies that make up the internet and the World Wide Web.
Point to remember - the internet and WWW are not the same.
